What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a new, gentle approach to traditional hypnotherapy, which uses a more modern understanding of how the brain works to help you make effective and long-lasting changes. It combines cognitive behavioural therapy, NLP, positive psychology and hypnosis with theories based on modern neuroscience.
We all experience natural trances every day, without realising it. It’s comparable to being so absorbed in a book or film that time seems to fly by; or being in a meeting where your mind has wandered. It is this natural state that is used in cognitive hypnotherapy. You never lose control and are certainly never put under the control of anyone else. Cognitive hypnotherapy is just an extremely effective way of making positive change.
We all have many different habits, which our ‘unconscious’ mind has decided are the best way for us to approach the things we do. For example, when getting dressed, without thinking you’ll put on a particular sock first as it just feels right and has become habitual. Sometimes though, these habits may be causing problems. That’s when cognitive hypnotherapy can help – by accessing and reprogramming the brain to operate in a more beneficial way.
How does it work?
This therapy takes the form of a conversation between you and your therapist, where you discuss your issue and any underlying habits connected to it. During part of the conversation, you will be placed into a pleasant, light trance state. In this state, you will be listening to your therapist providing beneficial corrections directly to your unconscious mind. You will always know where you are, what you are doing and can open your eyes whenever you wish.
We promise there’s no swinging pendant or deep sleep – you’re in control and can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to do!
Our patients also leave with tailor made audio files to listen to after the session to help consolidate the work.
