Frequently asked questions
What age children can you treat?
We see babies, children and young adults of all ages. Treatment is always adapted to the child’s age, stage of development and individual needs.
Is treatment suitable for babies?
Yes. Treatment for babies is gentle and carefully adapted to their individual needs. Parents are welcome to stay with their child throughout the appointment.
How long is an appointment?
Your child’s first appointment includes a detailed assessment, discussion of their history and, where appropriate, treatment. The osteopath will explain the recommended treatment plan and any follow-up appointments.
Is osteopathic treatment painful?
Osteopathic treatment is generally gentle and should not be painful. Your osteopath will adapt their approach to your child and stop or modify treatment if they become uncomfortable.
Is osteopathy covered by private health insurance?
Many UK providers include Osteopathy—check your policy for details.
Can osteopathy help with tongue tie or after tongue tie correction?
Osteopathy may provide gentle supportive care for babies with tongue tie or following correction. Treatment may help address associated tension or restriction and is tailored to each baby. It can be used alongside appropriate assessment and care from other healthcare professionals.
What is cranial osteopathy?
Cranial osteopathy uses very gentle, subtle techniques as part of an osteopathic assessment and treatment approach. Your osteopath will explain what they recommend following the assessment.
What might my child see an osteopath for?
Parents may seek osteopathic care for concerns such as muscular tension, posture, movement, feeding or settling difficulties, or general physical wellbeing. Your osteopath will assess your child and discuss whether osteopathic treatment is appropriate.
Do I need to stay with my child during treatment?
Yes. A parent or responsible adult should remain with the child during their appointment. We encourage parents to be involved and ask questions throughout the assessment and treatment.
How many treatments will my child need?
This varies from child to child. After the initial assessment, your osteopath will discuss their findings with you and recommend an appropriate treatment plan. We aim to use treatment only when it is considered appropriate and beneficial.
Can I bring my baby or child’s medical information?
Yes. Please bring any relevant medical information, referral letters or details of previous treatment that may help your osteopath understand your child’s needs.
